The science behind
- In 2003 a study was published in Microbial Ecology in Health and Diseases demonstrated that our acacia fibre is a bifidogenic, prebiotic dietary fibre with high digestive tolerance in healthy humans. Another study published in the British Journal of Nutrition in 2008 confirmed that our acacia fibre stimulates the growth of lactobacilli and bifidobacterium species which are the two commonly species used as probiotic supplements.
- In 2015 a study undertaken by the laboratory of Microbial Ecology and Technology (LabMET) at Ghent University in Belgium showed that our acacia fibre helped to restore the gut barrier by promoting anti-inflammatory molecules and inhibiting pro-inflammatory molecules. In 2016, in order to complete its scientific knowledge on the gut impermeability, Nexira's R&D team worked with the INSERM (Institut National de la Santé Et de la Recherche Médicale) to carry out new experiments and understand the mechanisms of the gut impermeability restoration, at a cell level. The research confirmed that our acacia fibre increased the number of proteins responsible for keeping the gut barrier intact and impermeable. The gut barrier is one of the most important components of the immune system and must not be impaired, damaged.
- In 2021 a single-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to identify the effects of daily acacia fibre supplementation on metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors. After 12 weeks, the participants receiving the acacia fibre showed significant decreases in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fat-free body mass, energy and carbohydrate consumption, and fasting plasma glucose. They also reported improvements in self-perceived bloating and quality of bowel movements, as well as a decreased appetite.
- In 2023 the results of a systematic review of 29 evidence-based clinical trials on acacia fibre showed that acacia fibre exhibited anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti carcinogenic properties. Numerous research studies featured in this review showed that acacia fibre has health benefits on metabolic disorders, gastrointestinal conditions and other health issues.
